2014 Harvest Celebrations in Macosquin

A weekend of Harvest Thanksgiving celebration in Macosquin village began on Friday 26th September at 7.00pm with a social evening, a very entertaining film, and a shepherd’s pie supper, followed by apple pie and ice-cream in the Parish Hall.
The church decorations this year included two windows of non-perishable food gifts which were then forwarded to the Coleraine Food Bank, which has been established to help people from the local area who are in financial difficulty.
The weekend also launched a month of fund-raising in the parish for the Church of Ireland’s Bishops’ Appeal.  This is an emergency relief fund, which provides a rapid response every year from the Church of Ireland for victims of conflict, world-wide crises, disasters and famine.
Once again the Harvest Thanksgiving Services on Sunday 28th September were intended to be especially attractive to people of all ages who have not been in church for some time, and members of the congregation looked forward to welcoming visitors for the annual ‘Back to Church Sunday’.  The preacher at the 10.30 am Family Service for adults and children was the Very Revd Dr William Morton, Dean of St. Columb’s Cathedral in Londonderry.  The highly renowned ‘Cantemus Singers’ ( a choir whose speciality is liturgical music) lead the Service of Choral Evensong at 7.00pm .
