Confirmation Sunday 5 May 2013

Confirmation is a significant moment in the life of members of the Church of Ireland.  it is the time when they affirm the promises which were made by their parents and godparents on their behalf when they were baptised as infants.

In most parishes the Rector and other members of the church spend several months giving instruction on many aspects of Christian belief and practice to prepare candidates for adult membership of the church.

On Sunday 5th May Bishop Ken Good confirmed 11 young people who made their commitment of faith in Macosquin.  The Revd Mike Roemmele, Lorna Doherty, Janet Kennedy and Kathleen Platt who had been involved in the preparation course presented them to the Bishop and The Very Revd Houston McKelvey also assisted in the service. St Mary's Church was packed with a congregation of almost 200 present for the occasion.

Before the service the Bishop had an opportunity to meet with the candidates and their parents during a continental breakfast, hosted by representatives of the Select Vestry. Immediately after their confirmation, the newly confirmed received their First Communion from the Rector and the Bishop.

At the end of the service, each of the newly confirmed was presented with a lighted candle, as the congregation prayed that they would walk in the light of Jesus Christ all the days of their life, and shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father.
